At this year’s Google I/O, a significant announcement from the Android Developers stream revealed that Garmin devices will officially integrate with Google’s Health Connect platform starting in June. Expanding Health Data Horizons
The impending support means that data from Garmin’s robust ecosystem, encompassing popular devices like the Fenix 8 and Enduro 3, will soon seamlessly synchronize with Health Connect. This integration places Garmin alongside existing fitness platforms such as Runna and Mi Fitness, allowing users to consolidate their health metrics from various sources. This unified approach promises enhanced cross-platform insights and more efficient health monitoring, removing previous data silos.
Momentum and Future Growth of Health Connect
Google underscored the impressive growth of Health Connect, reporting a 50% surge in active users over the past six months. This escalating adoption has been a catalyst for broader platform inclusion, with Garmin’s upcoming integration representing a major milestone. Beyond Garmin, other platforms like Flo are also being onboarded, and a new Medical Records API is set to further enrich the ecosystem. This API will enable health applications to read and write user allergy and immunization data, providing richer contextual health experiences.

This new compatibility with Health Connect arrives on the heels of Garmin’s recent hardware advancements. A December firmware update further expanded their capabilities with features like lactate threshold tracking, FTP auto-detection, Garmin Coach strength training plans, workout execution scoring, and meditation tracking.
