Garmin is rolling out a significant beta software update, version 15.05, for its popular Forerunner 970 and Forerunner 570 smartwatches. This new update brings a host of improvements and fixes, enhancing both functionality and user experience for athletes and everyday users alike.
Enhanced Control and User Experience
A major addition in this release is the ability to control notifications at the app level, giving users more granular control over what alerts they receive on their wrist. The update also improves the morning and evening reports, making them accessible directly from the notification center. You can now also set a vibration or tone to alert you when your evening report is ready. For those who frequently switch between activities, the update reduces lag when selecting a new activity, making the process smoother and faster.
Performance and Connectivity Improvements
This update introduces support for the Rally 110/210 power meter pedals, a welcome change for serious cyclists looking to integrate their training data seamlessly. To help runners better manage their pacing, Garmin has added a rolling pace data field. The update also addresses several critical issues, including a fix for a rapid battery drain problem and a bug that could cause a false Wi-Fi sync failure notification.
General Bug Fixes and Optimizations
Garmin has included several other fixes to improve the overall stability and performance of the smartwatches. These include silencing workout alerts that are out of range when you’re close to the next step, and fixing an issue where a voice command could fail if music was playing. The update also improves the accuracy and reliability of the race glance by ensuring the primary race is displayed correctly and refining the time to race day countdown.
To get the new features and fixes, you can manually download the update directly on your device by navigating to Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates.
