Garmin Launches New Beta Update 31.18 for Edge 1050, 1040, 850, 840, 550, and 540

Garmin has officially initiated the rollout of Beta Version 31.18, a fresh software increment designed for its latest generation of cycling computers. This update targets the core performance and UI stability of the Edge ecosystem, ensuring that data presentation remains crisp and accurate for high-performance cyclists.

Compatible Hardware Models

The firmware update is currently being deployed across a wide range of devices within the Edge lineup. If you own any of the following units, you are eligible to download the beta:

  • Edge 1050 & 1040 (Flagship series)

  • Edge 850 & 840 (Mid-range performance)

  • Edge 550 & 540 (Compact button-interface units)

Key Bug Fixes and Improvements

The primary focus of version 31.18 is a refinement of the device’s localization settings. Specifically, developers have addressed a translation anomaly where the word “Day” was incorrectly appended to various date strings within the user interface. This fix streamlines the visual layout, ensuring that date information is displayed cleanly across all supported languages without unnecessary text clutter.

How to Install the Update

To grab the latest patch, ensure your device is connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network. Garmin has made the manual pull process straightforward for beta testers:

  1. Open the Main Menu on your Edge device.

  2. Navigate to the System tab.

  3. Select About to view your current build.

  4. Tap Check for Updates to trigger the wireless download of version 31.18.
