Garmin is rolling out a new beta software update, version 12.64, for its Forerunner 970 and 570 smartwatches. This update focuses on addressing several key issues to improve the overall stability and user experience of the devices. It’s a maintenance-focused release that tackles various bugs reported by users.
Key Fixes and Improvements
This update includes several important fixes designed to resolve common issues. A significant change is the fix for issues that could cause the device to randomly reboot—specifically during sleep mode or when saving a swimming activity. These fixes should make the devices more reliable during daily use and workouts.
Additionally, the update addresses several issues related to settings and the user interface. It fixes problems where editing a watch face in a custom focus mode would unexpectedly change the currently enabled watch face. It also resolves an issue with the “do not disturb” mode where changing its settings could affect the device even when the feature wasn’t active.
Other Noteworthy Updates
Beyond the major fixes, version 12.64 also includes several other improvements. It corrects an issue where the evening report could appear prematurely and fixes problems with editing settings in activity focus mode. The update also improves the stability of connections to paired inReach devices. As with most updates, this version includes general bug fixes and updated translations for various languages to enhance the user experience for a global audience.
How to Get the Update
If you’re part of the Garmin beta program, you can manually download the update directly on your smartwatch. To do so, navigate to the Main menu, select Settings, then System, choose Software Update, and finally, select Check For Updates. The device will then search for and prompt you to install the new beta software.
