Garmin is currently deploying a new beta software update, identified as version 20.13, to several of its high-end smartwatches. This update targets users of the Fenix 8, Fenix E, Enduro 3, and Tactix 8 models. The release focuses primarily on addressing and rectifying several persistent bugs and performance glitches that users may have encountered across different functions of the watch.
Note: The Beta software available for the Fenix 8 series will have the ECG feature as well as the Dive and Aviation features disabled.
Key Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements
This beta release includes a significant list of fixes designed to enhance the overall user experience and reliability of the devices. One notable correction addresses the issue where the Auto Triggered Setting might not have been correctly restored following a backup and restore operation. Furthermore, the update resolves a counterintuitive bug that caused the device to show Storm Alerts when swimming, which could lead to confusion for users engaged in water activities.
Enhancements to Activity and Display Functions
Several fixes relate to activity-specific functions. For instance, the software corrects a problem where the Flashlight Strobe would not stop after pausing an activity. For users with the inReach device, the update ensures the inReach Widget is automatically added after pairing, streamlining the setup process. Additionally, a potential crash when editing Activity Focus Mode Display Settings has been fixed, improving the stability of customization options.
Resolving Display and System Issues
The new beta also tackles issues with the display and voice features. It fixes a glitch where the Outdoor Maps Plus Download Map Menu would show a black screen, ensuring the maps feature is fully functional. A major improvement for multisport athletes is the fix that prevents the Touch Screen from remaining on during a swim activity when it’s part of a larger multisport activity, avoiding accidental inputs. Finally, the update resolves an issue where the Voice Alert Frequency Settings were not working as intended.
How to Access and Download the Update
Users who are enrolled in the beta program can manually download and install version 20.13 directly on their eligible Garmin smartwatch. To initiate the update, simply navigate through the main menu settings on your device: Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates. This process will allow the watch to find and begin the download of the latest beta software.
