Garmin is introducing a new beta software update, version 29.21, for a range of its popular cycling computers. This update is specifically available for the Edge 1050, 1040, 850, 840, 550, and 540 models. This new version brings several refinements and fixes aimed at improving the overall user experience and device reliability.
Key Enhancements and Bug Fixes in Version 29.21
The change log for version 29.21 highlights several notable improvements. One important addition is a new user notification when the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connection limit is reached, helping cyclists better manage their connected sensors and devices. Furthermore, an issue where the lap data screen was not displaying properly has been resolved, which is a welcome fix for those who rely on lap-specific metrics.
Cyclists will also find a new feature: the cycling ability history graph. This should provide users with a more in-depth look at their long-term performance trends and fitness progression.
Stability, Altitude, and Minor Adjustments
In response to user feedback, Garmin has restored the previous altitude algorithm. The company notes that this is a temporary measure while further improvements to the altitude calculation are refined and thoroughly verified. How to Install the Beta Software
If you have one of the eligible Edge models and want to install the new beta software update, you can do so directly on your device, provided you have a Wi-Fi network set up. Simply follow these steps:
- From the device’s Main Menu, navigate to System.
- Select About.
- Choose Check For Updates.
Your device will then search for and prompt you to install version 29.21.
