Garmin has launched a new stable software update, version 23.18, for several of its smartwatches, including the Fenix 7, Epix 2, Enduro 2, Tactix 7, Quatix 7, and Marq Gen 2. This update brings a variety of new features, bug fixes, and improvements to enhance the user experience across multiple sports and activities.
New Features and Enhancements
This update introduces several notable improvements. For instance, a new tip has been added to the Pool Swim activity, which appears during a rest set to provide helpful guidance. Additionally, it now allows certain sensors to pair using both ANT+ and BLE+ (Bluetooth Low Energy Plus) simultaneously, offering greater flexibility and connectivity options for users with multiple devices. The Recent Stress Widget has been visually updated to match the aesthetic of the Fenix 8 series, and the breath variation page now uses a more intuitive line graph to display data.
Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements
Version 23.18 resolves numerous bugs that were affecting the performance and accuracy of these devices. Several issues related to data display have been corrected, such as the incorrect presentation of distance in nautical miles, inaccurate weight display in Strength activities, and erroneous data on the laps review page in Pool Swim. The update also addresses problems with navigation, fixing issues in both the general course navigation and within the Hunt activity.
Connectivity and sensor pairing have also been improved. The update resolves problems with the IR widget not being automatically added and fixes failures when pairing CT10 sensors. Additionally, it corrects issues with the AB connection to Kestrel devices and addresses a specific bug in the Tactix 7 that caused wind direction to change when connecting to a laser rangefinder (LRF). The update also tackles problems with rep counting in Strength activities and ensures that selecting “Last Ride” data no longer incorrectly displays the “Last Run” page.
How to Get the Update
Garmin provides a few simple ways to ensure your device is running the latest software. The easiest method for most users is through the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone. When your smartwatch is paired and synced with the app, new software updates are automatically downloaded to your device when available. The update will then install when you are not actively using the watch, and the device will restart upon completion. Alternatively, you can connect your watch to a computer using its USB charging cable and use the Garmin Express application to check for and install updates.
