Garmin has officially released a fix for a widespread connectivity glitch that recently plagued iPhone users. Following a wave of reports from frustrated smartwatch owners, the company confirmed that a dedicated software update is now available to restore stable communication between wearables and the iOS ecosystem.
Identifying the Scope of the Syncing Bug
The issue surfaced shortly after a previous update to the Garmin Connect app, creating a frustrating experience for users trying to sync their data or receive notifications. While the bug affected a broad spectrum of devices—including premium models like the Fenix 8, Venu 4, and the Forerunner 970—it was notably exclusive to the iOS platform. Android users remained unaffected by this particular communication error.
The Solution: Version 5.21.1
To rectify the situation, Garmin has deployed Garmin Connect version 5.21.1. This patch is specifically designed to address the handshake protocol between the smartwatch and the iPhone. Users can now download the update globally via the Apple App Store. According to the release notes, the update focuses entirely on this connectivity fix, with no additional features or secondary bug patches included in this specific rollout.
Troubleshooting: Manual Re-pairing May Be Required
While the update is intended to automate the fix, some users have found that simply installing the new version isn’t enough to revive the connection. If your watch remains disconnected after updating, Garmin recommends a manual reset of the Bluetooth link:
-
Remove the Device: Unpair the watch from both the Garmin Connect app and the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings.
-
Restart: Power cycle both your smartphone and your wearable.
-
Reconnect: Go through the initial pairing process within the app to establish a fresh, stable connection.
By following these steps, users should be able to resume normal operation and data tracking without further interruptions.
