Garmin rolls out new beta update 17.17 for Fenix 8, Tactix 8, and Enduro 3 models

Garmin is pushing out beta software version 17.17 to a selection of its premium smartwatches, including the Fenix 8, Fenix E, Enduro 3, and Tactix 8. This update brings a range of bug fixes and minor improvements designed to enhance user experience and device stability.

Key Enhancements and Bug Fixes

This beta release addresses several issues reported by users, focusing on refining existing features and resolving inconsistencies. One notable improvement is the addition of subtext to custom focus mode volume, offering clearer control. The update also tackles a persistent problem where the color shift would not activate when the watch entered sleep mode, ensuring visual consistency. Users will also find that the device lock shortcut no longer immediately re-locks, and the “Find My Phone” prompt behaves as expected even after manually disabling the phone connection.

Addressing Performance and Data Glitches

Garmin has specifically targeted issues affecting data accuracy and feature functionality. The update resolves a critical bug where automatic shot detection could cease functioning after multiple days of continuous device operation, which is particularly important for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. Furthermore, notification time inconsistencies have been rectified, and problems with passcode settings after backdating software versions have been fixed. Users who experienced failed restorations from backup after setting a passcode should also find this issue resolved.

Improvements to Glances and Navigation

Several “glance” features and navigation tools have received attention in this update. The Running Economy Glance will now correctly display data even when located within a folder, and the Running Economy Tip will function properly with physical buttons. The update also ensures that Sight N Go initiates correctly from the map navigation menu. Additionally, issues like the stair stepper history showing incorrect data and the Stock Glance chart overlapping have been addressed.

For those utilizing outdoor maps, using Places of Interest as an Outdoor Maps Plus download location has been fixed. Finally, a minor but important fix ensures voice notes sound correctly after being renamed. The Evening Report’s sleep advice has also been updated to be scrollable, improving readability.

How to Install the Beta Update

To get your device updated with the latest beta software version 17.17, you can easily initiate the process directly from your smartwatch. Navigate to the Main Menu, then select Settings, followed by System, and finally Software Update. From there, choose Check For Updates to download and install the new software.
