Garmin Rolls Out Stable Software Update 24.12 for Forerunner 965, 955, 265, 255, and 165 Models

Garmin is pushing out a significant stable software update, version 24.12, to its popular Forerunner series smartwatches. This update targets a wide range of devices, including the Forerunner 965, 955, 265, 255, and 165 models, bringing crucial bug fixes and overall improvements to enhance user experience and device reliability.

Key Enhancements and Bug Fixes

This latest software release addresses several persistent issues and introduces welcome refinements. A notable improvement includes enhanced on-device recovery options for instances where PIN unlock attempts are exhausted, providing users with more robust security measures. Garmin has also resolved a critical issue that sometimes prevented the device from booting correctly when loading a large number of maps, ensuring smoother operation for users with extensive mapping needs.

Addressing Activity Tracking and Navigation Glitches

Athletes and outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate fixes related to activity tracking and navigation. The update rectifies problems with the unresponsive menu key on inReach remote during activity and resolves issues with golf AutoShot, making these features more reliable. Furthermore, it fixes an issue with Dynamic Round-trip Routing recalculation when users go off course, ensuring accurate navigation during runs or rides. Users who rely on detailed health metrics will also find improvements, as the update addresses missing breathing variations data and resolves issues with activity charts for very long activities.

Resolving Watch Face, Workout, and Map-Related Issues

The update tackles various other bugs, including a potential crash on the watchface and an issue preventing altimeter recalibration in Back Country Ski when Auto Calibration is set to Nightly. It also fixes an issue with loading a workout and course at the same time, streamlining the preparation for complex training sessions. For users in specific regions, the update corrects a missing EasyCard transit card image and resolves issues with route calculation on China maps, ensuring greater accuracy and functionality. Additionally, general bug fixes and improvements contribute to the overall stability and performance of the devices.

How to Get the Update

For most users, the update will be delivered automatically to their device wirelessly if auto-updates are enabled. However, if you prefer to manually initiate the update, you can do so directly from your smartwatch. Simply navigate to Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates on your Forerunner device.
