Garmin has started the rollout of a new beta software update, version 20.14, targeting a selection of its most advanced smartwatches. This update is specifically designed for the Fenix 8, Fenix E, Enduro 3, and Tactix 8 series. This is a typical part of Garmin’s ongoing commitment to refining the user experience and squashing software bugs that users have reported.
Note:Â The Beta software available for the Fenix 8 series will have the ECG feature as well as the Dive and Aviation features disabled.
Key Fixes and Improvements in Version 20.14
The change log for version 20.14 includes several important fixes that address specific issues users were encountering. One notable fix is resolving an issue where Tide Alerts were incorrectly triggering during a user’s designated sleep window. This should ensure that wearers who use the tide tracking feature aren’t inadvertently awakened by unnecessary notifications.
Additionally, Garmin has fixed a problem concerning the Touch Lock Control, where it would not properly toggle or function when the Do Not Disturb feature was active. This ensures that the DND setting doesn’t interfere with the user’s ability to lock the touchscreen when desired.
Finally, a crucial security fix has been implemented: the update addresses an issue where the Wallet Pin Timeout Screen could be bypassed. This change tightens the security protocol for contactless payments, ensuring that users must adhere to the set time limits for re-entering their PIN, thereby preventing unauthorized access to the wallet feature.
How to Download and Install the Update
Users who are enrolled in the beta program can manually initiate the download and installation of software update version 20.14 directly on their compatible smartwatch. To do this, simply navigate through the device’s menu system by following these steps: go to the Main menu, then select Settings, choose System, and finally, select Software Update to find the Check For Updates option. Selecting this will prompt the device to search for and begin downloading the new beta software.
