Garmin has begun the rollout of its latest firmware, Beta Version 30.11, targeting its most recent generation of cycling computers. This update brings a suite of refinements to the Edge 1050, 1040, 850, 840, 550, and 540, focusing on more reliable navigation logic and fixing several data-reporting bugs that have impacted riders over the last few months.
Precision Navigation and Course Adjustments
The update introduces a provisional finish point system, offering more versatility in how rides are concluded. Garmin has also addressed long-standing community feedback by fixing the Auto-Zoom behavior while following a course. Furthermore, the “straight line navigation” error—which occasionally caused routing glitches—has been fully resolved, ensuring your path stays locked to the actual roads or trails.
Refined Metrics for Mountain Biking and Climbing
Data accuracy for off-road enthusiasts received a significant boost in this version. Garmin fixed a logic error that was granting ascent records during downhill mountain bike sessions and restored trail difficulty ratings that were missing from Enduro activity summaries. For those who enjoy tackling inclines, a new estimated time to completion feature has been added for free climbs, helping you manage your effort more effectively during a peak.
Consistency with Garmin Connect and Improved Efficiency
To provide a seamless experience between your device and your phone, the Time in Zones display for power and heart rate has been redesigned to match the Garmin Connect mobile app. Additionally, Garmin has optimized the Auto GNSS mode, leading to more accurate battery life estimations. This ensures that the remaining percentage shown on your screen better reflects your actual ride time.
Health Estimates and System Stability
Several “quality of life” fixes are included in this release:
-
Nutrition Alerts: Fixed an issue where the device would suggest fueling for rides shorter than two hours.
-
Sweat Loss: Re-calibrated the sweat loss estimates in the post-ride summary for better accuracy.
-
General Stability: Multiple minor bugs and system crashes have been patched to ensure the software remains fluid during high-intensity use.
