Garmin has officially begun the rollout of Beta Software Version 31.20, a comprehensive maintenance update designed to refine the user experience across its latest generation of cycling GPS units. This update targets several high-end and mid-range devices, including the Edge 1050, 1040, 850, 840, 550, and 540.
Stability and Interface Fixes
The primary focus of this release is on eliminating technical glitches that caused device instability. Garmin addressed specific system crashes that occurred when users attempted to view their course lists or utilize the Real-Time Settings (RTS) feature to customize data screens.
Additionally, the update resolves a frustrating UI lag and freezing issue linked to Connect IQ (CIQ) data fields. Navigating the interface while an activity is active should also feel much smoother, as the developers fixed a bug that prevented the options menu from functioning correctly when the start, stop, or pause overlays were visible.
Accuracy in Metrics and Goals
For athletes who rely on precise data tracking, version 31.20 brings several quality-of-life improvements. Garmin corrected an error where step goals would reset or change without user input. Furthermore, cyclists who manually adjust their elevation profile scales will find the tool much more responsive and accurate following this patch.
The weather widget has also received a technical tune-up. Previous versions occasionally displayed incorrect readings for environmental data, but this update ensures that both dew point and UV-index metrics are now reported accurately based on local conditions.

If your device is enrolled in the Garmin Beta Program, you can pull the update immediately via a wireless connection. To install the firmware, ensure your Edge device is connected to a Wi-Fi network and follow these steps:
