Garmin Descent MK3 gets stable update version 22.11: What’s new?

Garmin has released a new stable software update, version 22.11, for its Garmin Descent MK3 smartwatches. This update focuses heavily on refining the diving experience, particularly concerning communication and stability with external devices like transmitters and the S1 buoy.

Key Improvements and Fixes in Version 22.11

The core of this update addresses several critical aspects of the watch’s functionality, ensuring more reliable and smoother operation for divers:

  • Enhanced Communication Alerts: Garmin has improved the text displayed when SubWave Messages are unable to be sent, providing clearer feedback to the user.
  • Boosted Pre-Dive Stability: Stability for surface communication with transmitters before a dive has been improved.
  • Post-Dive Communication Reliability: The update specifically improves the stability of post-dive surface communication with the S1 buoy, ensuring better data transfer after surfacing.
  • S1 Buoy Data Sync: Reliability for S1 Buoy Post-Dive Data Sync has been enhanced, meaning you’re more likely to get your data seamlessly.
  • Resolved GPS Issue: A specific issue where GPS would remain off after resuming a Hunting activity has been fixed.
  • SubWave Messaging Fix: An issue that could potentially cause SubWave messaging to remain disabled when changing a transmitter from “Buddy’s Tank” to “My Tank” has now been corrected.
  • Crash Prevention: A potential crash that could occur when starting a dive with a transmitter has been fixed, leading to a more stable dive start.
  • S1 Buoy Distance Display: An issue that could cause S1 Buoy distance values to be displayed as dashes has also been resolved.

How to Get the New Software

The version 22.11 update should be delivered to your device wirelessly if you have auto-updates enabled.

For users who prefer to get the update immediately, you can manually check for it directly on your Descent MK3. To do this, navigate through the watch’s menu as follows: Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates.
