Garmin releases beta update 20.07 for Fenix 8, Tactix 8, and Enduro 3: New features & bug fixes

A new beta software update, version 20.07, is being released for a selection of Garmin smartwatches. This update applies to the Fenix 8, Fenix E, Enduro 3, Tactix 8, and Quatix 8 models, bringing with it a wide range of new features and crucial bug fixes.

New Features and Enhancements

This update introduces a few valuable improvements to your Garmin device. One notable addition is the ability to automatically lock and unlock the touch screen during strength training, which helps prevent accidental input while you’re working out. A new watch face complication has also been added to display your cycling VO2 max, giving you quick access to this key performance metric. The update also includes support for GPI files and a new way to access the keyboard layout menu by simply dragging your finger across the screen.

Important Bug Fixes

Garmin has addressed numerous bugs to improve overall performance and stability. A major fix resolves an issue where high-altitude data would appear “jumpy,” ensuring more accurate readings for climbers and hikers. The update also fixes a problem that caused a black screen when returning from the music menu during an activity, and it improves the lag that some users experienced when starting an activity or swiping through the Morning Report. Other fixes include correcting the display of course points and Climb Pro data after resuming an activity, ensuring smart notifications work correctly with Android devices, and resolving an issue where the battery icon was cut off on the Enduro 2 watch face.

Other Improvements and Changes

The update also includes a few quality-of-life adjustments. Garmin has improved the scrolling experience within the watch face selection menu and updated the highlight color of the Activity Stage menu to match the activity type. For multisport users, the update now allows for a long-hold on the lap key to change sports, making transitions smoother. Additionally, the update has removed the ability to wrap from the top of the Activity Pause menu to the bottom and has eliminated an unwanted feature in the strength reps menu that allowed wrapping from 0 to 999 reps.

How to Get the Update

You can manually download the 20.07 beta software update directly on your compatible device. To do so, simply go to your watch’s main menu and navigate to Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates.
