Garmin is pushing out a significant beta software update, version 20.10, designed to refine the user experience across several of its high-end smartwatch lines. This update is specifically targeted at the Fenix 8, Fenix E, Enduro 3, Tactix 8, and Quatix 8 models, bringing a suite of essential fixes and welcome quality-of-life improvements.
Note: The Beta software available for the Fenix 8 series will have the ECG feature and Dive features disabled.
Core Fixes and Performance Adjustments
A primary focus of this update is to resolve several irritating bugs that users may have encountered. For aquatic enthusiasts, a crucial fix addresses an issue where muting the Swim Pacing Alert was not functioning as intended, ensuring a smoother, distraction-free swim. Furthermore, the aesthetic and practical display has been refined: Weather Icons on MIP Watch Faces will now correctly show the appropriate night icons when it’s dark, improving readability and accuracy. A third notable fix tackles activity tracking: the Indoor Climb Activity will now correctly lock buttons when in an active split, preventing accidental input during intense workouts
Enhanced Navigation and Activity Customization
Garmin has also focused on improving how users interact with activity settings and navigation features. Users previously experiencing issues with organizing their data will be pleased to know that reordering and removing the very first data screen of a Hunt Activity has been resolved. On the navigation front, the Navigation Preview Page has been updated to provide a more useful metric, now clearly displaying the total distance remaining on the course, which offers greater clarity for planning and executing routes. Finally, a minor but helpful fix resolves the annoying Maximum Active Timers message showing incorrectly when starting a new timer.
How to Get the 20.10 Beta Update
If you own one of the supported devices and wish to access these improvements immediately, you can manually download the update. Simply navigate through your watch’s menus by going to the Main menu, then Settings, followed by System, and finally, Software Update. From there, select Check For Updates to initiate the download and installation process.
