Garmin releases new stable update 17.05 for Instinct 2, 2X, and Crossover smartwatches: What’s new?

Garmin has released a new software update, version 17.05, for the Instinct 2 series smartwatches, bringing a host of fixes and improvements. This update addresses various bugs to enhance the user experience across all models, with specific fixes for the Instinct Crossover and Instinct 2X. These changes improve everything from data accuracy during activities to the reliability of core watch features.

General Fixes for All Instinct 2 Models

This update provides a number of key fixes that apply to all Instinct 2 series watches. For Instinct Solar models, potential issues with solar charging have been resolved, ensuring your watch charges more reliably. You should also find that manual barometer calibration now works as intended. In Garmin Connect, a glitch that sometimes prevented the correct course from being displayed for an activity has been fixed.

Several issues related to specific activities and data fields have also been corrected. The Fish activity timer is now working properly, and the name for Mixed Martial Arts activities will display correctly in Connect. The update also fixes a bug that caused the weight value to change incorrectly when editing reps. For those with dogs, the dog track distance units now display accurately.

Additionally, a fix has been implemented for the nautical distance data field. The Reference Point app should now be more stable, with several potential issues addressed. You’ll also find that steps are no longer incorrectly recorded during horseback riding activities, and a scaling issue on the HRV (Heart Rate Variability) chart has been resolved. Finally, the “Wallet Locked” message will now display correctly, and a bug in the Open Water activity that caused distance to increase without movement has been eliminated.

Specific Fixes for Instinct Crossover & Instinct 2X

This release includes fixes tailored for the Instinct Crossover and Instinct 2X models. For both watches, a potential issue where the CPE (Connected Predictive Ephemeris) was missing and the GPS version displayed incorrectly has been resolved. You should also find that the Tides glance no longer appears blank.

For the Instinct 2X, a specific issue with the strobe light during multisport activities has been corrected, ensuring it functions correctly throughout your workout.

How To Get The Update

The update is currently at a 20% rollout and will increase over time. While the update will be pushed to your device automatically, you can manually check for and download it if you prefer. To update your phaser, follow these simple steps:

  1. Navigate to the Main Menu on your device.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose System.
  4. Finally, tap on Software Update and then Check For Updates.
