Garmin to Reportedly Introduce a New Connectivity Subscription for Smartwatches

Garmin appears to be on the verge of launching a third subscription service, following its existing Garmin Connect+ and Garmin Outdoor Maps+ offerings. This new service, rumored to be called “Get Fully Connected,” would unlock a wide array of advanced communication features through the Garmin Messenger app, including satellite text messaging and voice calls over cellular networks.

Expanded Communication Capabilities

According to a recent report from Garmin Rumors, the new “Get Fully Connected” subscription would be essential for accessing a variety of communication functions on compatible smartwatches. Subscribers would be able to send and receive satellite text messages, initiate satellite emergency calls, and make phone calls using a 4G LTE connection. The service would also enable users to share their live location and send photos and voice messages over the cellular network.

This expanded connectivity is said to function without a paired smartphone nearby, as long as the Garmin smartwatch is equipped with both an LTE modem and satellite connectivity. The report suggests a 30-day free trial will be available, although the exact monthly or yearly cost remains unknown. However, the pricing of the existing Garmin inReach subscription might provide a clue. For instance, the inReach Consumer Essential plan costs $14.99 per month and includes unlimited emergency calls and check-in messages, along with a limited number of texts and multimedia messages.

Transforming the Garmin Messenger App

The article also states that Garmin is planning to integrate all these features into a single communication hub by overhauling its existing Messenger app. This newly transformed app would be the central point for managing the new “Get Fully Connected” subscription and would also provide detailed information on satellite and LTE usage. This would make it easier for users to track their consumption and manage their communication services directly from their device.
