“Health Status” and 3D Maps: Core Smartwatch Enhancements
For smartwatches, the update primarily delivers two crucial features. The first is the “Health Status” tool. This new feature provides a quick summary of nocturnal vital signs. It alerts the user if values such as heart rate, Heart Rate Variability (HRV), or blood oxygen saturation during sleep deviate from their personal baseline ranges, potentially signaling illness or overtraining.
The second major addition is the inclusion of topographically accurate 3D maps within Garmin Connect. However, it is important to note that these visual mapping improvements are available exclusively to subscribers of Garmin Connect+.
New Features for Garmin Edge Bike Computers: Smart Fueling and More
The mentioned Garmin Edge bike computers also receive an array of enhanced capabilities. A stand-out function is “Smart Fueling”: This calculates the precise consumption needed for water and carbohydrates per hour to ensure energy reserves are optimally matched to the demands of the current workout.
Furthermore, Garmin integrates real-time weather updates and a detailed shifting analysis. The latter will only operate when the bike computer is paired with an electronic gear shifting system. Finally, Garmin GroupRide now allows users to compare their own speed and heart rate in real-time against the average of their riding group, thereby enhancing communal training.
