Garmin has officially started pushing out a fresh beta software update for its rugged outdoor watch lineup. The new release, version 15.12, targets a wide variety of models, including the Instinct 3 AMOLED, Instinct 3 Solar, Instinct E, and the Crossover AMOLED.
If you own one of these watches and are enrolled in Garmin’s beta program, here is a breakdown of what this new software changes and how it improves your daily use.
Better Tracking for Hikers and Runners
The core of this update brings two major fixes that apply to every single watch in the Instinct 3 and Instinct E family. First, Garmin has tweaked the hiking app to give users better gear suggestions while they are out on the trails. Second, runners who train indoors will notice a fix for a frustrating bug that previously messed up distance calibration when tracking workouts on a treadmill.
Clearer Screens and Smarter Features
Depending on the specific watch you wear, Garmin has tailored several smaller fixes to improve your daily experience. For instance, if you wear the Instinct 3 AMOLED Tactical version, you will no longer have to worry about the date displaying incorrectly on certain watch faces in different languages. Garmin also patched a bug that caused sleep data to vanish or display incorrectly during your Morning Report.
Meanwhile, users with the Instinct 3 Solar get a missing feature back. Garmin fixed a glitch that accidentally hid the “Auto Select Satellites” option inside the watch’s Power Manager settings.
Fixes for Hunters, Dogs, and Watch Faces
For the outdoor crowd using the Instinct 3 Solar or Instinct E, Garmin fixed the dog pointer arrow inside the DogTrack widget so it points in the right direction again. They also cleaned up visual bugs where custom app data fields were covered up or completely blank when using specific language settings.
Finally, if you use the tactical apps on either the Instinct 3 AMOLED or Solar, the update adds brand-new compatibility for Xero range sensor data inside the Applied Ballistics app.
How to Get the Update Right Now
While beta updates usually roll out automatically over time, you do not have to wait for your watch to download it in the background. You can force the update immediately by navigating through your watch’s menus.
Just press the Main Menu button, head to Settings, scroll down to System, select Software Update, and click Check For Updates to download version 15.12 right away.
