Screen and Case: 1.4-Inch Borderless Display

The most noticeable physical upgrade on the Marq Gen 3 is the screen. The Gen 2 featured a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen surrounded by a visible black bezel. The Gen 3 moves to a larger 1.4-inch borderless AMOLED display, which offers roughly 36 percent more active screen area without significantly expanding the overall watch size.
The new display features a resolution of 452 x 452 pixels and reaches a peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, making outdoor legibility noticeably clearer in bright sunlight. The watch case remains crafted from Grade-5 titanium with a sapphire crystal lens, maintaining the luxury build quality of the series.
Safety and Messaging: Integrated LTE and Satellite Connectivity
The biggest functional change between the two generations is independent communication. The Marq Gen 2 relied entirely on a connected smartphone for weather updates, live tracking, and emergency alerts.
The Marq Gen 3 integrates standalone LTE and satellite inReach connectivity. Users can send text messages, share voice notes, transmit live location data via Garmin Locate, and trigger 24/7 emergency SOS responses through the Garmin Response coordination center without needing a phone nearby.
Voice Capabilities and Integrated Flashlight

Garmin has brought several key hardware features to the Marq series that were missing from the Gen 2 lineup. The Gen 3 includes a built-in speaker and microphone, enabling wrist-based phone calls and voice command controls.
Additionally, the Gen 3 adds an integrated multi-LED flashlight built directly into the titanium housing. The watch also upgrades to Garmin’s Gen 5 Elevate optical heart rate sensor, adding support for the Garmin ECG app to monitor heart rhythm patterns. Internal storage has been expanded from 32 GB on the Gen 2 up to 128 GB on the Gen 3 to accommodate worldwide TopoActive maps and music storage.
Inductive Buttons and 40-Meter Dive Support
Water protection hardware has been redesigned for the Gen 3 series. While Gen 2 watches featured standard mechanical pushers rated for 10 ATM, the Gen 3 introduces leakproof inductive buttons that remove physical openings into the watch case.
This hardware update allows the newly introduced MARQ Diver model, which replaces the previous Captain edition, to support scuba, apnea, and freediving down to a depth of 40 meters.

The core titanium lineup structure has expanded from five main models in Gen 2 to six in Gen 3. Prices have also shifted upward across the board to reflect the added LTE, satellite, and dive hardware:
