Garmin has started rolling out a fresh stable software update for its popular outdoor smartwatch series. The new software, version 17.21, is now available for owners of the Instinct 2, Instinct 2S, Instinct 2X, and Instinct Crossover models.
What changes in the new version
- Fixed an issue where Race Predictor would be incorrect immediately after completing a run.
- General security improvements.
This release focuses on fixing a frustrating glitch for runners while making the device safer to use. The primary fix targets the Race Predictor feature, which previously displayed incorrect finish time estimates right after a workout ended. Runners should now see reliable predictions as soon as they save their activity.
Along with the race tool fix, Garmin included routine security enhancements across the entire software system. These background patches help protect user data and keep the smartwatches running smoothly.
How to download the update on your watch
Garmin devices usually download updates in the background, but users can speed up the process manually directly from their wrist.
To check for the update, open the main menu on your watch and scroll down to Settings. From there, select System, head into Software Update, and press Check For Updates to begin the download.
