Garmin is preparing to make major updates to its flagship adventure watch series. According to a report by Garmin Rumors, which obtained details through a trusted insider source, the upcoming Fenix 9 Pro will feature significant upgrades to its outer case and screen size.
While Garmin has not yet confirmed these details officially, the news gives sports tech fans a clear picture of what to expect from the next generation of multisport GPS watches.
Full Titanium Body Coming to the Fenix 9 Pro
The most notable update coming to the Fenix 9 Pro is a shift to an all-metal case.
For years, Garmin has built its Fenix watches using a hybrid design. Even the most expensive models paired a metal bezel and metal backplate with a middle body made from fiber-reinforced polymer plastic.
According to information shared with Garmin Rumors, the new Fenix 9 Pro will break away from this tradition by using a full titanium body. Removing plastic from the main case altogether marks a first for the Fenix line, giving the Pro model a far more premium, heavy-duty build.
Meanwhile, the standard, base-model Fenix 9 is expected to keep the familiar Fenix 8 look, maintaining the plastic middle section between its metal front bezel and back cover.
Bigger 1.5-Inch Screen for the 51mm Model
Alongside the material upgrades, Garmin appears to be addressing a long-standing user request regarding display sizes.
On older generations like the 51mm Fenix 8, the watch used the same 1.4-inch display panel as the smaller 47mm version. To make up for the extra space, Garmin simply made the black border around the screen thicker.
That looks set to change. Garmin Rumors reports that the 51mm Fenix 9 will finally upgrade to a larger 1.5-inch screen. This change means the display will actually fill out the bigger watch body, giving users more visible screen real estate and thinner borders.
LTE Satellite Features and Expected Pricing
The leak also sheds light on internal features and cost expectations:

inReach Features: Built-in satellite and LTE communication will remain tied to the “inReach” branding. Base Fenix 9 models are not expected to feature inReach capabilities.

Pricing: U.S. pricing for the Fenix 9 lineup is projected to stay very close to—or directly match—the launch prices of the current Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro models.
Garmin is hosting its “Play Harder” announcement event tomorrow, where the official unveiling of the Fenix 9 series is expected.
