Garmin Expands Edge 1060 Features to Edge 1050, 850, and 550 via Beta Update 33.13

Garmin has started rolling out a new beta software update, version 33.13, for several of its bike computers. The update applies to the Edge 1050, 850, 550, and MTB series models.

This release comes right after the official launch of Garmin’s new flagship Edge 1060. Instead of keeping the software upgrades exclusive to the newest model, Garmin is bringing those features to existing devices right away.

Key Features Added From the Edge 1060

The highlight of software version 33.13 is the addition of four new tools that debuted on the Edge 1060.

Riders can now use Garmin Messenger directly on their screens to send two-way text messages. The update also adds GroupRide, which helps cyclists track and message their riding partners in real time.

Additionally, users get access to Alternate Datafields for cleaner screen layouts, along with Garmin Cycling Coach to follow daily adaptive training plans directly from the handlebars.

Fixes for Battery Drain and App Bugs

Alongside the new software tools, Garmin fixed several issues that riders had reported on older software versions.

The update resolves a bug where GPS tracking and connected bike lights would turn off automatically when using Connect IQ apps. Garmin also fixed a battery issue that caused devices to drain power even when they were turned off or sitting idle.

Other fixes include correcting wrong mileage numbers in gear tracking, fixing route mode settings, and improving overall system stability to prevent crashes.

How to Check for and Install Update 33.13

If your Edge device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, you can check for and download the update directly without connecting it to a computer.

To install it manually, open the Main Menu on your device, tap System, select About, and choose Check For Updates. The device will automatically find and install beta version 33.13.
