Garmin Instinct 3 Series receives beta update 13.08: New Features & Bug fixes

Garmin has officially released a fresh beta software update, version 13.08, targeting its latest rugged wearable lineup. This firmware refresh introduces a mix of functional enhancements and critical bug fixes for the Instinct 3 AMOLED, Instinct 3 Solar, Instinct E, and the Crossover AMOLED models.

Note: This update is not recommended for inReach Remote users, as Garmin is working on addressing some connectivity issues present in this software version.

Garmin Unveils Beta Version 13.08 for New Instinct Series

The latest rollout brings several quality-of-life improvements across the entire Instinct 3 and Instinct E family. Users who frequently train indoors will appreciate the new ability to manually save distance data during Indoor Row activities. Additionally, Garmin has integrated Smart Wake alarm settings and expanded customization options for the Morning Report, allowing for a more personalized start to the day.

On the technical side, the update resolves a series of frustrating bugs. Swim tracking has been refined to fix inaccuracies involving rest times, SWOLF scores, and calorie counts. For those using inReach satellite communicators, the update optimizes message displays and ensures that data remains viewable even when a live connection is dropped.

Exclusive Features for Solar and AMOLED Models

While many updates apply to the whole range, Garmin has reserved specific optimizations for its premium hardware. The Instinct 3 Solar, Instinct 3 AMOLED, and Crossover now support Pack Weight tracking within the Stair Stepper activity—a vital metric for hikers and rucking enthusiasts. Furthermore, these models receive underlying improvements to Training Readiness algorithms to better reflect recovery status.

Visual updates are also included for the high-resolution displays. The Instinct 3 AMOLED and Crossover versions feature improved notification icons for better legibility at a glance. Specifically for the Crossover, Garmin has patched a bug that previously caused the battery life estimator to provide inaccurate readings, ensuring users have a more reliable view of their remaining power.

How to Install the 13.08 Update Manually

While beta updates often roll out in phases, users can bypass the wait by initiating a manual download directly from their wrist. To check for the update, follow this path on your watch:

  1. Open the Main Menu.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Scroll to System.

  4. Choose Software Update.

  5. Tap Check For Updates.
