For months, rumors trailed Garmin about a screenless fitness tracker. The Garmin Cirqa is officially here, priced at $199.
Instead of adding another smartwatch with notifications and bright screens to your wrist, the Cirqa takes a page out of Whoop’s book: it is a lightweight, fabric-banded sensor pod designed to track your health and training 24/7 in the background—with zero required monthly subscription fees.
While I haven’t had the chance to test and review the Garmin Cirqa myself just yet, I am really looking forward to getting my hands on one soon to put it through its paces. In the meantime, leading endurance tech reviewers like Ray Maker (DC Rainmaker), DesFit, and Chase the Summit have already published their initial impressions.
Here is what the experts are saying so far.

1. DC Rainmaker: “Everything in a $500 Garmin, minus the screen”
Ray Maker’s review got straight to the point: the Cirqa brings almost the entire health and performance tracking suite from Garmin’s mid-range GPS watches into a screenless band.
-
The Hardware: The tracker features a 27mm fabric strap secured with Velcro, making it slightly wider than a Whoop band. It includes a single side button to start/stop workouts manually or snooze alarms.
-
The Sensor Choice: Garmin chose its Elevate Gen4 optical sensor. While it lacks ECG capabilities (found on the newer Gen5), it includes overnight skin temperature tracking, heart rate variability (HRV) status, and Pulse Ox. DC Rainmaker noted that for daily wear and general workout tracking, the accuracy difference between Gen4 and Gen5 is negligible.
-
No Subscription Trap: The standard Garmin Connect app handles all data analysis for free. While Garmin offers an optional Connect+ subscription, Ray emphasized that most users won’t need it.
“The Garmin Cirqa comes in at $199 and has essentially every health/fitness tracking feature of any of Garmin’s sub-$500 GPS watches… just without a screen, and without any required subscription cost.” — DC Rainmaker
2. DesFit & Community Reviewers: Wearability & Daily Features
Fitness tech creator DesFit and endurance reviewers like Chase the Summit focused heavily on how the Cirqa fits into daily life, especially for athletes who already own a mechanical watch or a dedicated bike computer.
-
Comfort & Form Factor: Reviewers praised the comfortable, breathable fabric strap designed for 24/7 wear—including sleep and intense workouts. It can be worn on the wrist or upper arm.
-
Battery Life: The promised 10-day battery life held in initial testing. It uses Garmin’s standard charging port with a USB-C cable.
-
Connected GPS: Because the band lacks built-in GPS to save battery and space, outdoor runners and cyclists must tether it to their phone’s GPS via the Garmin Connect app if they want precise route maps.
-
Automatic Activity Detection: The Cirqa automatically picks up basic activities like walking, running, and cycling, while the side button allows manual entry for 80+ workout types.

The Verdict
Reviewers agree that the Garmin Cirqa is targeted squarely at two types of people:
-
Whoop users tired of monthly subscriptions: If you pay $30/month for Whoop, the $199 one-time cost of the Cirqa pays for itself in under a year.
-
Traditional watch wearers & cyclists/runners: People who want to wear a classic mechanical timepiece or record rides on a bike computer, but still want full-day Recovery, Sleep, and HRV data without wearing a bulky smartwatch.
I’m working on getting a unit in for testing, so stay tuned for my full, hands-on review as soon as I get my hands on it!
