Garmin is pushing the boundaries of cycling technology with its latest beta software update, version 28.11, for the Garmin Edge 1050. This update introduces a host of new features, performance enhancements, and crucial bug fixes, aiming to elevate the riding experience for all users, particularly those in the mountain biking community.
Elevating the Mountain Biking Experience
A significant focus of this update is on mountain biking. Garmin has added new MTB activity profiles, specifically Downhill, Enduro, and e-Enduro. These profiles boast 5 Hz GPS recording, offering more precise tracking for demanding rides. Riders will also benefit from Timing Gates support, enabling accurate measurement of specific segments, and Forksight enhancements, which should provide improved foresight on trail conditions.
Performance and Navigation Refinements
The update brings notable improvements to the device’s core functionality. Users will experience improved map drawing performance and efficiency, leading to smoother navigation. For triathletes, the Edge 1050 now supports viewing adaptive training plans, providing a more integrated training experience. Additionally, the inclusion of Short-Term Ephemeris (GPES) will result in faster satellite acquisition, meaning less waiting and more riding.
Connectivity and User Interface Enhancements
Connectivity has been a key area of improvement, with updated GNSS, sensor, ANT, BLE, NFC, and Bluetooth libraries. These updates are designed to deliver improved connectivity across various accessories and devices. The user interface also sees several refinements, including a fix for the radar “halo” not appearing with a turn prompt, an updated Connected-POI dynamic glance layout, and changes to segment target data for consistent visibility during efforts. The home-page profile button now conveniently shows current-ride distance while recording, and users can now toggle Virtual Partner off for courses, offering more control over their ride data.
Addressing Key Bug Fixes and Stability
Garmin has diligently addressed a range of bugs to enhance the overall stability and reliability of the Edge 1050. Issues such as auto-brightness not adjusting after standby, incorrect shifting of data field battery levels, and problems with the workout-duration picker have all been resolved. The update also fixes workout data fields resetting after sport profile merges and route recalculation failures when using Topo 2025.10 maps. Minor bug fixes and overall stability improvements contribute to a more seamless user experience.
How to Get the Update
