If you buy a brand-new flagship watch, you naturally expect it to work with all the major apps right out of the box. Unfortunately, that is rarely how things go in the wearable world. When Garmin launched the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro, buyers quickly noticed a frustrating omission: Google’s YouTube Music app was completely missing from the Connect IQ store.
For nearly two months, owners of Garmin’s most expensive sports watches were left hanging. But good news has finally arrived. Reports across the fitness tech community confirm that the YouTube Music app is rolling out to the Fenix 9 lineup, bringing offline playlists and podcast downloads to the wrist.
The Frustration on Reddit: Two Months of Waiting
When the Fenix 9 first hit the market, new owners took to Reddit to figure out why they could not find the app. Discussions quickly started popping up on the r/GarminFenix community from people asking if anyone had successfully installed YouTube Music, noting that the app simply did not show up in the store.
The threads filled up with frustrated replies from runners and outdoor athletes who had just spent a small fortune upgrading their gear. Veteran Garmin users pointed out that this is becoming an annoying trend, as Google always seems to take two to three months after a new Garmin flagship launch to update its app.
One buyer expressed major anger over spending $1,100 on a flagship device that lacked basic app compatibility, stating they were returning the watch and going back to an older Epix 2. Because of the delay, several buyers felt forced to take temporary measures, like signing up for Spotify Premium trials just to get music onto their new watches while waiting for Google to catch up.
Relief and Real-Time Reactions as Support Lands

The long wait finally came to an end when a post on the r/GarminWatches subreddit delivered the simple announcement: “If you’ve been waiting to get YTM on your Fenix 9, it is now available.”
The reaction from the community was immediate relief, with one user calling the poster “the hero I needed.”
Other members chimed in to confirm that the app was finally downloadable on both the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro. However, a few owners noted regional hiccups, pointing out that the app was not showing up right away in places like Germany. This shows that the rollout is taking a little extra time to hit every region.
What This Means for Fenix 9 Users
Now that the update is rolling out, Fenix 9 owners can use their watch’s massive storage capacity the way it was intended. With up to 64GB of internal space on these flagship devices, users have plenty of room to sync thousands of songs and offline playlists over Wi-Fi and listen through Bluetooth headphones without needing a phone on runs.
While the delay was painful for early adopters who felt penalized for buying on day one, the arrival of YouTube Music means one of the most requested features is finally checked off the list.
