Garmin is beginning the rollout of a new beta software update, version 23.08, for several of its top-tier smartwatches. The update is now available for the Fenix 7, Epix 2, Enduro 2, Quatix 7, and Marq Gen 2 models, and it introduces a few key changes focused on connectivity and stability. This beta program gives users an opportunity to test out the latest features and fixes before a final public release.
What’s New in Version 23.08?
This update focuses on two primary areas. The most significant change is the added support for certain sensors to pair over both ANT and BLE+ (Bluetooth Low Energy) connections. This enhancement provides greater flexibility for users, especially those with multiple sensors or devices that might use different connection protocols. This dual-protocol support is a crucial step in ensuring seamless integration with a wider range of third-party accessories, from heart rate monitors to power meters.
Additionally, the update includes a specific fix for AB connection issues that some users were experiencing with the Kestral device. This is a targeted improvement aimed at resolving a known connectivity problem, which is vital for users who rely on the Kestral for wind and atmospheric data during outdoor activities like shooting or hiking. These changes show Garmin’s commitment to refining the user experience and ensuring its devices work flawlessly with external equipment.
How to Manually Update Your Device
If you are already enrolled in the Garmin beta program, you can get the update right now. To do this, simply navigate to the following menu on your smartwatch: Main Menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates.
