Garmin rolls out new beta software update 16.05 for Venu 3 and Vivoactive 5 models

Garmin has just released a new beta software update, version 16.05, for several of its popular smartwatches, including the Venu 3, Venu 3S, and Vivoactive 5. This update is designed to fix a couple of key issues that were impacting the user experience on these devices.

Note: The Beta software available for the Venu 3/3S will have the ECG feature disabled.

Addressing Key Bugs and Improving Functionality

  • Fixes an issue where volume control was not working properly
  • Fixes an issue where the incorrect time was shown on the broadcast heart rate screen

The latest update focuses on two important fixes to ensure a smoother, more reliable experience for users. The first major fix corrects an issue where volume control was not working properly. This is a crucial improvement for anyone who uses their smartwatch to listen to music or podcasts, as it restores the ability to manage audio playback directly from the wrist.

The second bug fix addresses an issue where the incorrect time was shown on the broadcast heart rate screen. For users who rely on their Garmin watch to broadcast their heart rate data to other fitness equipment or apps, this correction ensures that all data points—including the time of day—are accurate.

How to Get the Latest Beta Update

Since this is a beta update, it’s part of Garmin’s testing program to get feedback before a full release. If you’re enrolled in the beta program and want to download version 16.05, you can do so directly from your smartwatch.

  1. From the main watch face, press the Action button (top right) to open the main menu.
  2. Navigate to Settings, then select System.
  3. Choose Software Update. Your watch will then check for the update and begin the download process if it’s available.

By downloading this update, you’ll help Garmin test these fixes and contribute to the development of a more polished final release.
