Garmin releases stable update 28.33 for Edge 1050, 1040, 840, and 540: What’s new?

Garmin is rolling out a new stable software update, version 28.33, for several of its popular cycling computers. The update is currently at a 50% rollout, but Garmin plans to increase that percentage soon, making it available to more users of the Edge 1050, 1040, 840, and 540. This new software brings a range of enhancements and bug fixes to improve the overall user experience and device stability.

Key Updates for Edge 1050, 1040, 840, and 540

This new software version introduces support for the Rally 110 and 210 power meters. This includes important features like Force data and Pedal IQ smart calibration alerts, which will provide cyclists with more precise and actionable performance metrics. Beyond the new power meter support, the update also addresses several technical issues. It fixes potential problems with the inReach Remote after a connection is lost, resolves an issue where custom maps wouldn’t display correctly, and corrects a bug preventing audio prompts from playing in certain situations. Finally, the update includes a number of general improvements to device stability and minor bug fixes to ensure a smoother user experience.

Specific Improvements for the Edge 1050

The Edge 1050 receives all the same updates as the other devices, including full support for the Rally 110 and 210 power meters with Force data and Pedal IQ alerts. The update also brings several specific improvements to the 1050 model. Cyclists will notice improved compass performance when creating timing gates, which is essential for accurate data collection. The software also addresses an issue where the turn instruction icon was incorrect for certain roundabouts, thereby improving navigation reliability. Just like the other models, the 1050 also gets fixes for inReach Remote, custom map rendering, and audio prompt issues, along with general stability enhancements.

How to Get the Latest Update

Getting the new software version is a straightforward process. Your Garmin Edge device will automatically check for and download the update when it is connected to a Wi-Fi network or paired with your smartphone via the Garmin Connect app. Once the update has been downloaded, your device will prompt you to install it.
