For years, there has been a division within the wearables space between the always-on smartwatches and the recovery-focused movement. Although Garmin has ruled the always-on side of the fence, a new finding hints that they are now prepared to challenge players like Whoop and Oura. In a newly uncovered trademark application for a product known as the Garmin CIRQA, we finally get a glimpse at an entirely new piece of technology that focuses not only on how you exercise but also on how you recover after your workout.
A Legal Paper Trail with Specific Intent

The common practice is to obtain rather general trademarks to ensure protection of the names, but the trademarking process for the CIRQA (filed on February 25, 2026) in the USPTO is something else. The term “intent to use” indicates that Garmin is not registering the brand just out of some selfish motives; on the contrary, they plan to put their product on sale.
The most interesting thing about it was the specific wording. Rather than just calling it a “fitness tracker,” Garmin registered a patent for the device capable of tracking bio-signal metrics, physiological metrics, and metrics related to stress recovery, alertness, and performance.
Shifting Focus: From “Smartwatch” to “Bio-Sensor”
It is evident from the filing that Garmin intends to make the device more specific in terms of form factor. The filing discusses electronic sensors and monitoring devices that send data to an external application. Such a move suggests that the product will be “screenless,” or will come in a very minimalistic band.
This is precisely what we have been missing all along when using Garmin’s excellent data tracking technology while wanting to go to bed without having a Fenix or an Epix on our wrist. It seems like CIRQA will bring Garmin’s advanced analytics, including “Body Battery,” “HRV Status,” and “Sleep Coaching.”
Connecting the Dots: The “Smart Band” Leak

However, this trademark registration is not happening in a vacuum. On the contrary, it confirms the existence of a “glitch” that happened early this year. To be more specific, there was a listing for a “CIRQA Smart Band” on the website of Garmin itself back in January. This product was mentioned to come in two distinct sizes and multiple colors, and its expected date of release is set somewhere around mid-2026.
Although the initial leak was treated by many as an accident, this trademark registration makes it appear as part of a well-thought-out plan.
When Can We Expect It?
Although the filing process does not necessarily establish a firm release date, it could not be more aligned with the Summer 2026 timeframe. The filing is currently pending examination by an attorney, but the records suggest that technology behemoths frequently roll out their hardware before completing the necessary documentation.
In light of the mid-2026 shipping schedule predicted in the previously reported leak, we may only have a matter of months left until we see Garmin’s very first recovery-oriented wearable. For all those who wish to harness the benefits of the Garmin universe without the distraction of a typical smartwatch display, CIRQA will be the product to follow.
