Garmin has started rolling out a new stable software update, version 32.20, for its popular cycling computers. The fresh release brings a solid mix of feature tweaks, stability upgrades, and bug fixes to owners of the Edge 1050, 850, 550, and MTB models.
Smarter Features for Off-Road and E-Bike Riders
Mountain bikers and cross-country riders will notice a helpful change in how the device tracks their rides. Automatic climb and descent detection is now enabled by default under the MTB and CX activity profiles, so you do not have to turn it on manually before hitting the trails.
E-bike users also get a better experience thanks to an updated Bosch eBike metrics screen that displays data more clearly. On top of that, Garmin made improvements to its Stamina model, helping cyclists get a more accurate picture of how much energy they have left during a hard workout.
Fixes for Navigation and Ride Stats
The release cleans up several issues that riders were facing on the road and trail. Navigation and elevation tracking run much smoother now, with fixes for ClimbPro indexing when you join a route partway through, incorrect post-ride grades, and better marker placement for riders and Virtual Partners on zoomed elevation charts. Garmin also fixed an issue where distance showed up wrong during postal code searches, as well as a bug that kept course points visible even after you turned them off in your settings.
Riders using specific gear will also see smoother performance. The update fixes time-in-gear recording for Shimano 1x Di2 setups, resolves pairing troubles with the RearVue 820, and improves general Gear Tracking when no specific gear is selected.
System Performance and Updating Your Device
Garmin tackled several system bugs to keep devices running reliably. A fix prevents system crashes during long activity recordings when battery saver mode is active, and another resolves an issue showing incorrect trimmed time and distance at provisional finish points. Furthermore, incident locations stand out more clearly on activity summary maps, trainer controls are removed while following a course, and Daily Suggested Workouts can now be disabled straight from the home screen.
To install version 32.20, make sure your Edge device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Open the Main Menu, choose System, tap About, and select Check For Updates to download the new software.
