Two Sizes and a Premium Design
One of the biggest changes right out of the box is that Garmin is offering the Approach S72 in two sizes, 43mm and 47mm, so it fits different wrist sizes much better.
No matter which size you choose, Garmin built the watch with a bright, beautiful AMOLED display that is easy to read in direct sunlight. It also features a lightweight titanium bezel, a durable sapphire lens, and a new, comfortable ComfortFit fabric band that won’t get in the way of your swing.
New On-Course Features and Metrics
Garmin packed the Approach S72 with new software tools to help you understand your game better than ever:
-
Golf Biometric Data: You can now look back at a completed round and see how your heart rate changed before and after your shots, helping you spot trends under pressure.
-
Swing Metrics: Instead of guessing, you get real data on your swing—including hand speed, backswing length, and wrist rotation.
-
Green Reading: With an active Garmin Golf membership, the watch uses green contour data on select courses to show you the slope percentage and the direction your putts will break.
-
Putting Analytics and Driving Range Activity: You can now log driving range sessions into the Garmin Connect app and check putting stats like speed and direction bias after your round.
-
Aerial Imagery: Get a clear, real-image view of the hole ahead to help you pick the best spot to lay up.
Smartwatch Features and Battery Life
This is also the first Garmin golf watch to feature a built-in speaker and microphone, letting you take phone calls right from your wrist and use voice commands. Garmin also included its popular built-in LED flashlight (with white and red lights) to help you find golf balls or gear in a dark bag.
When it comes to battery life, the larger model gives you up to 20 hours of continuous use with GPS turned on during a round, and up to 16 days of battery life when you use it as a standard smartwatch with GPS turned off.
Price and Availability
The new Garmin Approach S72 is available starting today, with retail prices starting at $799.99.
If you have been waiting for a serious golf watch that also doubles as a great everyday fitness tracker, the Approach S72 is definitely worth a look.
