Garmin is rolling out a brand-new beta software update, version 33.05, designed for several of its top-tier cycling computers, including the Edge 1050, 850, 550, and the dedicated MTB model. For cyclists who love pushing their gear to the limit, this fresh release brings a wave of exciting new features, expanded activity options, and crucial bug fixes to make every ride smoother.
Expanding Your Riding Options and Course Limits
One of the standout additions in version 33.05 is the massive increase in course storage. Garmin has doubled down on capacity, bumping the maximum course count all the way up to 200. This means you can store significantly more routes directly on your device without constantly having to clear out old rides.
Alongside the extra storage, Garmin is making its platform much more inclusive for different cycling styles. The Ride Type list now features brand-new additions, including Recumbent, Hand Cycling, Indoor Hand Cycling, Track Cycling, and BMX. Riders can also look forward to a better Strava leaderboard experience, more accurate Virtual Partner times, and smoother gear selection confirmations on the Edge 550 and MTB versions.
Crushing Bugs and Improving Daily Reliability
Beyond the new features, Garmin spent plenty of time addressing user complaints and stability issues. Cyclists who were plagued by annoying, repetitive Bluetooth sensor battery warnings will finally see relief. The update also tackles a frustrating issue where navigation alerts failed to wake up the screen when Battery Save Mode was enabled, ensuring you never miss a turn.
Other notable fixes include clearing up stale Daily Suggested Workouts glances, solving Connect IQ tone glitches, and fixing a bug where map data fields refused to update after completing a segment or a climb. Garmin also sorted out annoying Wi-Fi connection crashes, eliminated unnecessary Varia radar video recordings, and fine-tuned gear handling for single-chainring (1x) electronic shifting setups. Overall system stability is noticeably tighter across the board.
Under-the-Hood Tweaks and Overall Stability
To round out the update, Garmin included its classic catch-all line: “Improved device stability and addressed various minor bugs.” While these background tweaks usually do not get flashy headlines, they are essential for making sure your Edge computer runs smoothly, handles long rides without freezing, and keeps your system performing reliably from start to finish.
How to Download the Beta Update Today
If you are eager to test out these new improvements on your Edge device, the installation process is straightforward. First, make sure your bike computer is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. From there, simply navigate to your Main Menu, select System, tap About, and choose Check for Updates to download and install version 33.05 right away.
