Garmin is rolling out a fresh software update for cyclists who love to test new features early. The company released beta version 31.61 for its popular Edge 1040, Edge 840, and Edge 540 bike computers. This update brings several practical fixes and quality-of-life improvements designed to make every ride smoother.
Fixing Daily Gripes and Camera Glitches
Cyclists will likely notice a few welcome changes right away. Garmin finally fixed the Daily Suggested Workouts settings, meaning riders can now easily disable them straight from the home screen. The update also solves a frustrating issue with the Varia Vue and RCT715 radar cameras, which were previously recording way more video clips than necessary.
Better Mapping and Smoother Performance
Beyond the quick fixes, Garmin polished several performance features. The update improves Strava leaderboard content and corrects Virtual Partner speeds when using the “Set a Target” feature. Additionally, riders will see better marker positioning for both themselves and their Virtual Partners on zoomed elevation profiles during ClimbPro and Segment screens.
Improved Device Stability
Garmin also included important background improvements to keep your device running smoothly. This update addresses various minor bugs hidden deep in the system. Overall, these tweaks boost device stability to help prevent unexpected crashes or freezes while you are out on the road.
How to Install the Update
For users ready to test out the new software, downloading it takes just a few moments. You will need to connect your Edge device to a Wi-Fi network first. Once connected, open the Main Menu, go to System, select About, and tap on Check for Updates to get the installation started.
