Garmin has begun rolling out a new beta software update, version 33.17, for several of its popular cycling computers.
This latest beta build is targeted at users with the Edge 1050, Edge 850, Edge 550, and Edge MTB models enrolled in Garmin’s public beta program.
Restored Connectivity for Bosch eBikes
A major fix in update 33.17 addresses a frustrating connectivity issue for e-bike riders.
Ever since the release of beta version 33.12, we have received numerous messages from readers reporting that their Edge bike computers were failing to sync with Bosch systems. Garmin has finally resolved the issue in this build, allowing cyclists to reliably pair their devices again to view live battery levels, assist modes, and motor data during rides.
Seamless Garmin Pay Experience
Riders using contactless payments will see smoother performance at checkout stops.
The new update improves the overall Garmin Pay experience by reducing unexpected interruptions and timeout errors, making tap-to-pay functionality faster and more reliable on supported devices.
Display Fixes for Home Screen Odometer and Bottle Size
This release resolves two noticeable visual glitches on the interface.
Garmin fixed a bug that caused the home screen odometer to display empty dashes instead of total distance tracking. Additionally, the system now correctly displays numerical values for bottle sizes in hydration tracking, fixing a bug where the field appeared blank.
Enhanced System Stability and Minor Bug Fixes
Beyond individual feature patches, version 33.17 includes general performance enhancements.
The update improves overall system stability and bundles various background bug fixes to reduce screen freezes and prevent mid-ride crashes.
How to Install Update 33.17 via Wi-Fi
If your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network and registered in Garmin’s beta program, you can update directly from the cycling computer.
To download the software manually, open the Main Menu, select System, tap About, and press Check For Updates.
