Garmin has just released a new software update for several of its popular cycling computers. Beta version 33.20 is now rolling out to users with the Edge 1050, 850, 550, and MTB models.
The update comes as a surprise to many cyclists, arriving just three days after the company published beta version 33.17.
Fixes for Startup Issues
- Fixed some devices failing to fully start up.
This sudden release appears to focus on fixing critical performance issues caused by the previous build. According to Garmin’s release notes, update 33.20 tackles a major bug that prevented certain devices from turning on properly.
Some users had reported that their bike computers froze mid-boot or failed to load the home screen entirely after installing the previous version. Build 33.20 directly addresses this glitch, ensuring units power up smoothly.

Cyclists enrolled in Garmin’s public beta program can download the software wirelessly.
To install the update, connect your Edge device to a saved Wi-Fi network and follow these steps:
-
Open the Main Menu on your device.
-
Select System.
-
Scroll down and tap About.
-
Choose Check For Updates.
Once confirmed, the device will automatically download and install the fix.
