Garmin Connect Code Reveals Upcoming Waze Integration for Cyclists

As first uncovered by the tech publication Gadgets & Wearables, Garmin is currently working on an exciting new feature. Hidden deep inside the Garmin Connect version 5.31 application file, new code strings directly reference “Share Location with Waze”, “Share your rides with Waze”, and “Waze Location Sharing.” These references reveal that the company plans to help bridge the safety gap between riders and drivers by streaming real-time tracking data straight onto Waze maps.

How the New Integration Will Work

The core idea behind this discovery is wonderfully simple. Normally, Garmin users rely on a feature called LiveTrack to broadcast their real-time location to friends and family for safety. Under this upcoming integration, that same technology could link up with Waze.

When a cyclist heads out for a ride using their Garmin device, their live position could automatically feed into the Waze navigation network. This means drivers using the app will have better awareness of cyclists sharing the road, helping to prevent accidents on busy streets and blind corners.

Why Road Safety is Getting a Tech Upgrade

Road safety between cars and bicycles has always been a major concern. Traditional car GPS apps focus entirely on vehicle traffic, leaving vulnerable road users exposed.

By pushing real-time Garmin data into a widely used platform like Waze, Garmin lets drivers receive early digital warnings about cyclists ahead. It transforms standard fitness tracking into a passive safety shield, using tools drivers already check every day to keep two-wheel commuters visible.

What Lies Ahead for Garmin and Waze

While Garmin has not yet made an official public announcement, evidence in the app code points to an active development phase.

As testing continues, we can expect to learn more about how privacy controls will work—giving riders the choice of when and where they broadcast their location. If rolled out globally, this partnership could become an essential tool for everyday cycling safety.
