If you’ve been following our regulatory tracking here on GarminNews.com, you probably remember when I first spotted new, unreleased outdoor models popping up in regulatory databases. At the time, I wasn’t 100% sure whether those mystery filings belonged to the Fenix 9 series.
Garmin did what they usually do: they kept model names hidden behind internal ID numbers and made sure no pictures were publicly attached to the documentation.
Fast forward to the official launch: Garmin finally announced the Fenix 9 series, and it became instantly clear that those early database filings were indeed the new Fenix models. But while the watch is already out in the wild, the backstory doesn’t end there.
I recently went back to Taiwan’s NCC (National Communications Commission) database, and sure enough, the official testing photos Garmin kept under wraps before launch have finally surfaced.
Even though the watch is already official, I wanted to share these raw certification photos with you because they reveal exactly how Garmin prepares its devices behind closed doors.
What the NCC Photos Reveal
Unlike shiny marketing renders, NCC certification photos show the real hardware under laboratory testing light, sitting right next to measurement scales.
Here is a closer look at what we can confirm from these hidden images:

Front View & Charging Setup: In the first photo, you can see the full face of the watch alongside its charging cable. The layout matches the updated Fenix 9 bezel geometry, surrounded by measurement rulers to verify physical dimensions during regulatory approval.

Rear Sensor Cluster: The second image gives a clear look at the back case and sensor array. It shows the multi-channel heart rate sensor cluster, standard quick-fit strap attachment points, and the clean metallic rear casing finish.
Better Late Than Never
While leaking images after an official announcement doesn’t break new features, finding the exact certification photos that kept us guessing for weeks is always satisfying. It completes the puzzle of how these devices travel from early regulatory submissions in South Korea and Taiwan straight onto our wrists.
