Garmin is releasing a new beta software update for its Venu X1 smartwatch users. The new version, 18.14, focuses heavily on fixing bugs and improving how the watch handles music, alarms, and workouts.
If you want to get the update right away, you do not have to wait. You can download it manually by going to the Main Menu, selecting Settings, tapping System, choosing Software Update, and then clicking Check For Updates.
Smart Touch and Display Fixes
This update makes the screen much smarter. Garmin has fixed an issue where the watch would accidentally unlock itself when the touch lock feature was turned on.
Additionally, if you love water sports, you will notice a helpful change. Previously, the touch screen would accidentally turn on during water activities if a custom focus mode was running. That bug has now been resolved.
No More Crashing During Workouts
Great news for gym-goers: your watch should stop crashing mid-workout. Garmin fixed a frustrating bug that caused the device to completely reset right when you tried to save an indoor rowing session.
Rock climbers get a fix too. A separate glitch that caused the watch to crash during indoor climbing activities has been successfully patched.
Major Audio and Headphone Improvements
A massive chunk of this update is dedicated to fixing how headphones and music behave. For starters, button sounds will now automatically turn off when you connect headphones. Garmin also fixed a bug that caused your music volume to shift unexpectedly when your focus mode changed.
The update also prevents music from awkwardly playing out loud through the watch speaker for a moment after you unplug your headphones. Furthermore, the rewind button will now properly restart songs, and the music page will finally show your correct playback status.
Better Control Over Alarms and Alerts
Alarms should behave much better now. Garmin fixed an issue where alarms set to “vibrate only” would still make noise. They also fixed a bug that caused music volume to spike right after an alarm went off.
You will also have better control over your volume settings. The update fixes issues with adjusting alarm volume, and it stops general alert volumes from ignoring your custom settings. Plus, music will no longer play over the top of spectator messages.
Smoother Training and Plans
For athletes following a routine, Garmin has cleared up some confusion in the calendar. The update fixes a glitch where the training days displayed on your wrist did not match up with your actual Garmin Coach plan. It also fixes an issue with selecting rest days for your daily suggested workouts.
Finally, the update packs in a few other minor bug fixes and updates translations for different languages.
