Garmin releases fresh beta update 33.06 for Edge 1050, 850, and 550: What’s new?

Garmin has a brand-new beta software update ready for some of its most popular bike computers. If you own an Edge 1050, Edge 850, or Edge 550, version 33.06 is heading your way. Garmin releases these beta updates to test out new features and fix pesky bugs before sending them out to all users.

Better Bluetooth and Sensor Support

One of the biggest upgrades in this version involves your hardware connections. Garmin has bumped up the maximum number of simultaneous Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) sensors you can connect to 8.

If you like to pair multiple devices—such as heart rate monitors, power meters, speed sensors, and smart lights—at the same time, this change gives you extra breathing room. You will no longer need to disconnect one device just to use another during your ride.

Fixing Connect IQ Crashes

Cyclists will also notice a fix for a pesky bug that used to crash Connect IQ data fields whenever you tried editing your screen layout. You can now change your screen setup smoothly without the device freezing up or crashing on you.

Reliable Safety and Map Downloads

Garmin also fixed a critical problem where incident detection failed to trigger during accidents, making rides much safer. On top of that, the update solves an annoying issue where TopoActive map downloads would randomly stall out and stop working.

How to Download the Update

Getting the new software is very simple. First, make sure your Edge device is connected to your Wi-Fi network. Then, go to the Main Menu, select System, click on About, and choose Check for Updates to get version 33.06 installed.

Note to users: If you see “Collecting diagnostics…” go to Menu > System > Diagnostics > Upload RAM Dump.
