Garmin has just started rolling out a new beta software update, version 31.62, for the Edge 1040, Edge 840, and Edge 540 bike computers. This update brings a helpful mix of sensor upgrades and important bug fixes to keep your rides running smoothly.
More Room for Bluetooth Sensors
One of the big changes in this software version is an increase in hardware support. Garmin has bumped up the maximum number of concurrent Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) sensors you can connect to 8. This means you can pair more gadgets at the same time—like heart rate monitors, power meters, and smart lights—without running out of connection slots.
Fixing Battery and Map Display Glitches
The update also takes care of a few annoying software quirks that riders have run into. For starters, it fixes an odd glitch where the battery percentage would incorrectly look like it was going up while you were out riding. Another fix ensures that map data fields update properly instead of freezing in place.
Better Safety and Map Downloads
Garmin has also tackled critical stability problems. The update fixes an issue where TopoActive map downloads would stall out and get stuck midway through downloading. Additionally, it patches a serious bug where incident detection failed to trigger during accidents, helping keep you safer on the road.
How to Download the Update
Getting version 31.62 onto your bike computer is quick and easy. First, connect your Edge to a working Wi-Fi network. Then, head to the Main Menu, select System, click on About, and choose Check For Updates to download and install the new software.
Note to users: If you see “Collecting diagnostics…” go to Menu > System > Diagnostics > Upload RAM Dump.
