Just one week after the debut of version 31.21, Garmin is keeping the momentum going with another fresh update. The new Beta Version 31.22 is now hitting the global fleet of cycling computers, including the flagship Edge 1050 and 1040, the mid-range 850 and 840, and the compact 550 and 540 models.
This quick-fire release suggests Garmin is prioritizing stability and refining the user experience following the previous build’s feedback.
Squashing Bugs in Navigation and Shifting
The primary focus of this update is on “quality-of-life” fixes that address specific technical glitches reported by the community. For cyclists using advanced electronic shifting setups, Garmin has resolved an issue where shifter button actions were failing on configurations featuring more than four buttons. This ensures that custom controls remain responsive, regardless of how complex your cockpit setup is.
Additionally, navigation geeks will be pleased to see a fix for the map data fields. Previously, some users found their map orientation locked into “Track Up” mode regardless of their settings; version 31.22 restores full control over how you view your route.
ClimbPro and UI Refinements
The climbing specialists weren’t left out, either. A specific bug within ClimbPro has been addressed—specifically the “remaining climb distance” metric on the edit page. This fix ensures that the data you see while customizing your screens matches the reality of the road ahead, preventing any mid-ride confusion when the gradients get steep.
How to Trigger the Update Manually
While these beta builds often roll out automatically to enrolled devices, you can jump the queue if you have a configured Wi-Fi network. To check for the update right now, follow these steps on your Edge device:
-
Open the Main Menu.
-
Scroll down and select System.
-
Tap on About.
-
Select Check For Updates.
If your device is part of the Beta program, the download should initiate immediately, ensuring your next ride is running on the most polished software available.
